Unix Timestamp Converter
A Unix timestamp counts the seconds since 1 January 1970 at 00:00 UTC. Paste one to see the date in UTC and in your own time zone, or pick a date to get its timestamp. The tool guesses whether the number is in seconds, milliseconds, microseconds or nanoseconds.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server.
How to use it
- Paste a Unix timestamp in the first field to see the date.
- Or choose a date and time in the second field to get the timestamp.
- Use the live clock at the top if you need the current timestamp.
Handy references
- 10 digits (such as 1700000000) are usually seconds.
- 13 digits are usually milliseconds, the unit JavaScript uses.
- Seconds timestamps pass 2,147,483,647 on 19 January 2038, which overflows 32-bit signed integers (the Year 2038 problem).
- Unix time ignores leap seconds, so every day has exactly 86,400 seconds.
Frequently asked questions
- How does the tool know the unit?
- By the size of the number: values below 100 billion are read as seconds, then milliseconds up to 100 trillion, then microseconds and nanoseconds. If your value is ambiguous, check the detected unit shown with the result.
- Which time zone is used for the date to timestamp conversion?
- The time zone of your device. The UTC version is shown next to it so you can compare.
- What is the Year 2038 problem?
- Systems that store the timestamp in a signed 32-bit integer overflow after 03:14:07 UTC on 19 January 2038. Modern systems use 64 bits.
- Does the timestamp change with time zones?
- No. A Unix timestamp is always relative to UTC. Only the way the date is displayed changes between time zones.
